Floris: “In 2016, I met Berlin-based illustrator Bendix Bauer. Bendix works for various fashion companies, top brands, and international media. We thought it would be fun to start something together, and see where it takes us. We gave Bendix complete carte blanche, and he got to work. The result of that are these 'Monkey business' shoes. A black and white gangster shoe that style-wise leans towards the 50s. A bit of Al Capone, but with monkeys.
Bendix send me the greatest of explanations to accompany his design. The shoe was an ironic tribute to 2016, the Chinese year of the monkey. It was also a statement against terror and violence, hence the hearts coming out of the monkey's guns. The shoe also represented a new male 'antitype': a strong, yet sensitive man who's original, straightforward, free, intuitive, open, funny, playful, elegant, influential and loving. It symbolised 'The Power of Love' and juxtaposes the presence of terror and violence with "love even more!".
This was more than enough reason for us to make this inspiration-filled shoe into a limited edition. We launched it during the grand opening of our store on the Neuer Wall in Hamburg."
