2011: Floris’ favorite metal band Textures

Floris: "While on the bus for a fieldtrip of my arts class, back when I was about 16 years old, I gathered all my courage. I asked the toughest two guys on the back of the bus if I could, for just a moment, listen to the music coming from their headphones. Up until then, I hadn't explored further than my Michael Jackson collection. I absorbed 30 seconds of shredding metal with a grunt as heavy as the Matterhorn. It would change my life forever. From that moment forward, I too was a metalhead. Since then, I've been to hundreds of concerts and festivals at home and abroad, and have seen every band I even remotely like live on stage multiple times.

And then, in 2011, I met the manager of Textures. He could imagine a cooperation, and I was just frantically nodding my head. When the best metal band in the Netherlands comes calling, you answer and obey. Throughout the years we've actually worked together a number of times. We've sponsored a video clip and a live DVD, and in 2011 we made a Textures shoe and promoted their latest album 'Dualism'.

This uncommon mix of underground band and mainstream company resulted in responses from areas that are rather untypical for a rough metal band. Reviews started to appear in mainstream magazines like Playboy and Nieuwe Revu, and as a highlight the guys were invited to perform live in the prime-time TV talkshow 'De Wereld Draait Door'. I'm not sure whether that all happened because of our involvement, but it was a great ride.

One of the absolute highlights of my life happened on a sunny 23rd of August, 2011. Right before Textures were to start their tour of the US, they organised a showcase in our store in the centre of Amsterdam. The band took up half of the only 50m2 of floor space, and the other half was filled with selected fans and press. With all the doors and windows open, the entire street was rocking on its foundations for half an hour. Below this text you'll find a little video I made that day."
