Goodyear
The difference in character between a Blake and a Goodyear shoe comes from the technique used to construct the sole.
With the Blake construction, a pre-made sole is used, allowing greater freedom in the sole’s thickness and edge finish. This gives the shoemaker the ability to create a slimmer, more fashionable, or flexible design.
With the Goodyear construction, on the other hand, the sole is built up piece by piece in the shoe factory using traditional craftsmanship. Several specialists shape the sole through dozens of manual steps.
The higher construction and hand-finished sole edge give the Goodyear shoe a more robust appearance. This construction method is therefore less suited for highly fashionable, summery, or very refined styles. Due to the extensive manual work involved, a Goodyear shoe is on average about thirty euros more expensive than a Blake shoe.
