Product details

The sole of this casual men's boot has the look of natural rubber, also known as crêpe. While authentic natural rubber is visually appealing, it is also quite delicate. For this boot, a special compound has been developed that combines natural rubber with synthetic rubber. As a result, De Tanker offers the look of natural rubber with the durability of synthetic materials. The calf leather lining and carefully designed last ensure long-lasting wearing comfort. The boot is fitted with a removable footbed that can be replaced with custom insoles or orthotics if desired. The upper is crafted from burgundy suede with a beige core. For men’s shoes, Floris van Bommel uses the English (UK) shoe size system in whole and half sizes (5 to 13½). This allows for a very accurate fitting range. The two tables below show how the UK sizes relate to EU sizes and centimetres. In the video, we show you how to measure your feet correctly.

"I keep a list of quotes that are important to me in my phone. This quote by Naval Ravikant is also on it: "All greatness comes from suffering". It applies to this shoe as well. At the beginning of my career, we designed a similar style. The sole was made of 100% crêpe, a natural rubber. This was when I had to learn the hard way that real crepe comes with a lot of problems. If you wear crepe soles in winter, they are rock hard because of the cold, until you sit down with your feet against a heater - then they practically melt away under your feet. Natural rubber also tends to turn white and dry out quickly. Back then, we received a lot of complaints. We vowed to never use crepe again. Back to the present: we recently came across this rubber blend at our sole supplier, which is now the outsole of this shoe. It looks like crepe, it's nice and transparent, a bit grainy, feels like crepe too, but it isn't. I was so happy to finally bring back this style. Oh and... this quote by George Carlin is also on my list: "Always remember how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are even stupider". But then again, we didn't use real crepe a second time around. I hope that means I'm just above average."
