2014: Dutch Burn Victim Foundation and the Dutch Firefighters

Floris: “Throughout the years we've worked with famous musicians and actors, amazing companies, and iconic athletes. All unique talents that are often celebrated as heroes in their field. The ambiguous thing here is that the real heroes of this world, those from the harsh daily reality, can sometimes become a bit overshadowed. It's for exactly that reason that this cooperation with the Dutch Firefighters was so special to us. It served as an ode to the heroes of the fire department.

During the national firefighters congress of 2013 we revealed the 'fireman sneaker'. Obviously, it was red, and sported some typical fire department details. In the press release surrounding the presentation I described it as follows: "Bolt four wheels and a ladder to those sneakers, and you'll have a hard time distinguishing it from a real fire truck".

The Dutch Fire Department said the following about this sneaker: "The Dutch Fire Department is pleased with the ode to all our firemen and women. 'Additionally, we're becoming increasingly innovative within the fire department', president Stephan Wevers said. 'On the subjects of firefighting, aid and assistance, and prevention, we need to keep up to execute our social duty successfully. The fireman sneaker that Van Bommel has developed is a beautiful and tongue-in-cheek ode to our firefighters. Aside from the seriousness that comes with our profession, we need to reserve room for fantasy and experimentation. We're hoping these fireman shoes will support us in that effort. Furthermore, we love to lend our name to the cause of this Floris van Bommel campaign: the Dutch Burn Victim Foundation."

As mentioned in the fire department's statement, all the proceedings of our fireman sneaker went directly to the Dutch Burn Victim Foundation. Their mission is to prevent burns from happening, and to reduce the suffering as a result from burns to a minimum. They do this without any subsidies or government support."
