At the end of the design season, Floris writes small pieces of text about each new shoe line. Some will make you a little wiser than others, but they are always worth reading. Here are some of the new texts from this season. The other texts can be found on the detail pages of the shoes.
Floris: “Our "NOPPI" sneaker line is the favourite model of all our designers!
Totally trendy, with a nice lightweight, yet voluminous sole and an outsole finished with a lot of nubs. If you're a young father watch out for any Duplo blocks on the floor while wearing them. Before you know it, you're half a metre taller...”
Floris: "Let me share a little secret from the shoe world: A shoe retailer often wears the weakest shoe from his collection. He does this for two reasons.
The first is very simple: this way, he has one pair less in stock. The second reason is much more important though. Since he’s wearing the shoes, customers in the shop suddenly realize that they actually look quite nice when worn. So, he’ll sell the shoes anyway. There’s always a huge difference between seeing a shoe on its own and seeing it worn. This was also the case with this shoe. I was excited when I saw the first prototype, but when a colleague wore the test sneaker, I was instantly obsessed. Magic! Best sneaker in ages: modern, different, and with its very own look. We immediately showcased the whole line as our new key style for summer 2024. We use one of the colour combos in our ads and the other versions will get a special spot in our online shop. Soooo, I'd say, try them on for yourself!"
Floris: "We named this line ‘De Karper’ (The Carp) because of the sole colour. The colour looks a bit like the colour of a goldfish, and a goldfish is a carp, so there you have it.
These kinds of references are especially useful for us to easily remember the names of the different lines. Mnemonics! Perfect... The mnemonic I think I’ve used the most in my life is the name 'Hélène'. My Dutch teacher used to say it in class when talking about accentuating the letter E. "If you memorise that name with the first accent up and the second one down, you'll never make a mistake again", and I’ve enjoyed this for forty years. I don't know if I'm going to enjoy the name ‘De Karper' for forty years too, but you never know, right? SEE?! I’M DOING IT RIGHT AGAIN! HÉLÈNE!!!"
Floris: "This pump stands out for its super sleek gold heel with geometric lines. The 7 cm high heel is finished with a matt rubberised coating.
This version is finished in bronze metallic printed leather. The heel is adorned with a stitched-on rubber label sporting the letter 'F'. The lining is made of thin and supple goat leather. The outsole is made of black rubber with a subtle non-slip profile.
Floris: “Who doesn’t like underdogs? Even in the design department we have to deal with this type. These are the shoes that we’ve often worked on the longest, that make us very happy, but struggle to make it into the final collection.
They’re either too extravagant, too experimental or simply too exclusive and therefore too expensive. And our marketing department doesn’t believe they’ll stand a chance as part of the regular collection. To be able to present these shoes nonetheless, we’ve created the premium collection. This is a collection where we as designers do not have to take commercial aspects, target groups or any other expectations into account. The only requirement is that they make us happy. This model here is one of the shoes we’ve lost our designer hearts to. If you decide to buy them: cherish them!”
